To present the student with evidence of a major earthquake disaster


To allow the student to relate theory to actual events


To provide Case Study information for use in the GCSE examination

 

Objectives

The student should learn about:

(a) The location of Kobe in relation to major tectonic features;

(b) The effects of the earthquake on transport and communications;

(c) The effects of the earthquake on utilities and services;

(d) The secondary damage caused by fire.

 

Outcomes

The student should have knowledge and understanding of:

(a) A recent earthquake;

(b) The primary and secondary consequences of earthquakes;

(c) How earthquakes disrupt areas long after the initial event.
